Shnite
The shnit worldwide short film festival is a jointly organized international short film festival in Switzerland, Germany and, since 2011, in other countries such as South Africa, Russia, China and Costa Rica. It takes place every October in Bern , Buenos Aires , Cairo , Cape Town , Hong Kong , Moscow , San José and New York .
history
The festival was launched in Bern in 2003 under the name shnit short film nights in the cinema of the Reithalle cultural center . The two-day event for short films of all genres developed into a multi-day festival with an international competition, numerous special competitions and a broad supporting program with workshops and public film talks.
Since 2005 is the International Short Film Festival shnit each October in Progr and in various cinemas in the center of Bern instead. Since 2007 the international short film festival shnit has also hosted the Slam Movie Night . With over 15,000 visitors, the festival was already the most popular short film festival in Switzerland in 2008, with the highest prize money at film festivals in Switzerland . In 2009 the international short film festival shnit showed its program for the first time simultaneously in Bern (CH) and Cologne (D) to a total of 22,000 visitors. In 2010, Cape Town was added as the third venue, and in 2011, Vienna , Singapore and San José (Costa Rica) .
Orientation and program
The focus of the international short film festival shnit is on short films of all kinds. In the program works of different techniques and genres are shown in common program blocks.
The international competition shnit-Open is at the center of the festival . To this end, each location has a national competition such as the made in Germany and the swissmade award. The total prize money in 2011 was over 32,000 euros (42,000 CHF).
In addition to the competitions, the international short film festival shnit shows various themed special programs. In 2009, in addition to shnit hits such as feel good or shnit animated , programs focused on Sweden, Cologne and Bern and other themed series such as documentary shorts, experimental or gay and lesbian cinema were shown. There is also a special program for children every year with the magic lantern .
As part of the supporting program, the international short film festival shnit offers workshops, discussion forums and performance opportunities for local filmmakers.
The REALTIME film competition has also been taking place at the shnit short film festival since 2007 and has also been held in Cologne since 2009.
Awards and winners
In addition to the audience award, a jury award has been given in the international shnit-Open competition since 2005 and the Swiss Award for the best Swiss production since 2007. The jury has been awarding first prizes in three categories in the international competition since 2008. In 2009 the German Award for the best German short film was added.
