In 1939, at the end of the Spanish Civil War , the French authorities allowed refugees from Spain to flee from Franco's troops to France. The French internment camp Vallon-en-Sully north of Montluçon and Clermont-Ferrand was next to the internment camp Camp de Gurs , the internment camp Argelès-sur-Mer , the internment camp Saint-Cyprien , the internment camp Camp de Rivesaltes , the internment camp Le Vernet and the internment camp Septfonds a camp for interning refugees. Under the Vichy regime , the camp continued to be used as an internment camp.
