IPG was founded as a holding company in 1960 . Their history goes back to the two New York advertising agencies The Erickson Company (founded in 1902) and The HK McCann Company from 1912, which were merged to McCann Erickson in 1930 .
Internationally operating advertising companies in the holding are for example the FCB agency, founded in 1873 as Lord & Thomas , and Weber Shandwick .
