The intertrigo as - intertriginous eczema , diaper rash or skin Wolf denotes - is a red, oozing inflammation of the skin caused by a softening of the skin is promoted, z. B. urinary incontinence , profuse sweating or friction, and occurs in skin folds. Intertrigo is a general clinical term with no indication of the cause.

Symptoms, localization

Intertrigo between the toes

The skin damage usually causes a burning or itchy sensation in the affected areas. It can be used to secretions coming from aqueous wound fluid. Papular vesicular to pustular satellites ( pustular border) are often found around the affected skin areas. Blisters and erosion can form.

Often an intertrigo develops in overweight people, as skin comes to rest on skin in several places. Typical are the formation of fissures , whitish maceration on a reddened base, sharply delimited erythema , partially scaling on the periphery , especially submammary (in the breast fold), inguinal (in the inguinal fold), axillary (in the axillary fold), perianal (in the anal fold), interdigital ( between the fingers) and at the corner of the mouth. An unpleasant, sweet fetor can indicate a bacterial infection.

Perineal intertrigo

The intertrigo perinealis (on the perineum and between the buttocks and thighs) is also known as the wolf .

In dogs especially are Lefzenfalten the Cocker Spaniel (→ Lefzenekzem ), forehead wrinkles short-headed breeds , the vulva in obese animals, the scrotum region in older males and skin wrinkles of Shar Peis affected.

Pathogen

The most common pathogen in humans is Candida albicans (cf.. Candidiasis ).

In dogs, Staphylococcus intermedius is primarily responsible for intertrigines.

therapy

The essence of treatment is careful skin care . Antibiotics are indicated for bacterial colonization and antimycotics for fungal infections . Oozing areas should not be treated with powder - as was common in the past - because lumps quickly form, which put additional stress on the already irritated skin. Instead, gauze compresses or linen cloths are placed in the appropriate fold in order to buffer mechanical stimuli and to bind moisture.

prophylaxis

In addition to mobilization , prophylaxis is to avoid the formation of “damp chambers” as well as appropriate personal hygiene, especially if you are bedridden and sweat profusely. The skin should be kept as dry as possible, whereby moisture is dabbed off and not rubbed off. If you sweat heavily, compresses or similar can be placed in the skin folds at risk. When storing immobile persons in need of care, endangered or affected areas of the skin should be as free as possible and easily accessible.

In sport, the friction of the affected skin areas is reduced by applying fatty care products such as petroleum jelly , milking fat or deer tallow or by wearing specially cut functional clothing such as cycling shorts .

Zinc-containing ointment can be used to prevent and relieve the symptoms.
