Inthavong

Inthavong (also Inthavong Setthathirath III, full throne name Somdet Brhat Chao Indra Varman Jaya Setthadiraja Chandrapuri Sri Sadhana Kanayudha Visudhirattana Rajadhanipuri Rama Lan Chang Krum Klao ; * in the 18th century; † February 7, 1805 in Vientiane ) was king of the Laotian Kingdom of Vientiane .

Inthavong was the second son of King Bunsan (r. 1767 to 1779 and 1780 to 1781) and was appointed Upayuvaraja (viceroy) by his successor Nanthesan (r. 1781 to 1795) in 1781 and crowned in Vientiane in 1782. Between 1783 and 1795 he stayed as a hostage of the Siamese in Bang Phlat (Khwaeng Bang Yi Khan, Thai : บางยี่ขัน ), Bangkok , where he was accepted into Siamese government services.

After the deposition of his childless brother Nanthesan, King Rama I (r. 1782-1809) appointed Inthavong as the new king of Vientiane. Inthavong set out on February 2, 1795 and was crowned the new king in Vientiane on July 23 of the same year. He died on February 7, 1805 in his palace, leaving behind a son and two daughters:

  1. Prince ( Sadet Chaofa Jaya ) Mani (Menh), captured by the Siamese on July 18, 1827 while accompanying the Viceroy Tissa
  1. Princess ( Sadet Chaofa Jaya Nang ) Kundhana Devyavati
  2. Princess ( Sadet Chaofa Jaya Nang ) Dungsukti (Thongsuk), 1795 as his 28th wife, married to King Rama I .; both had a daughter

Prince Anuvong was appointed as his successor .
