Inukami! ( Japanese. い ぬ か み っ! , Eng. "Dog God!") is a Japanese light novel series, written by Mamizu Arisawa and with drawings by Kanna Wakatsuki. The series has been published since 2002, has reached 14 volumes so far and has been adapted as a manga , anime and video game , among other things .

The series is about a dog god named Yōko and her master Keita Kawahira who fight against annoying ghosts. In addition to Yōko, other Inukami also play an important role, most of them alongside Kaoru Kawahira.

In Inukami! it is about Keita Kawara, a member of an Inukami-tamer clan and is disregarded by this clan as clumsy. Inukamis, literally "dog gods", are dog-like benevolent demons who have spiritual powers and can transform themselves into a human form. Together with a partner from the historical Inukami tamer clan, they fight evil. Keita is initially unable to find an Inukami who wants to enter into a contract with him. When the beautiful Inukami "Yoko" finally decides to become his Inukami, Keita is overjoyed until he realizes that she is uncontrollable.

main characters

Yōko

Yōko ( よ う こ ) is the main female character in the series. She has two abilities: Jaen ( 邪 炎 ), which enables her to make a firestorm appear from her fingers, and Shukuchi ( 能力 ), an ability which allows her to teleport objects. She is not afraid of fighting evil spirits, but she is very afraid of dogs.

Keita Kawahira

Keita ( 川 平 啓太 ) is the male protagonist of the series. He is seen as a failure by his family and he considers fighting evil spirits a part-time job. Even with his Inukami , Yōko, his life doesn't get any easier. He often flirts with other women, especially other Inukamis , which Yōko is very displeasing. Keita's strengths lie particularly in his athletic ability. In addition, he can launch powerful attacks through carved frog figures the size of an eraser by causing them to explode.

The light novel started on April 18, 2002 in the 17th issue of the light novel magazine Dengeki hp . Four more chapters appeared along the way until the first hardcover edition of the series appeared. 14 main volumes and two other Omake -Bände with drawings by Mari Matsuzawa were of ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko publishes label between January 10, 2003, and December 10 of 2008. The first 14 issues had a main story, numbers 15 and 16 became Inukami! EX Wan! and Inukami! EX Wanwan !! called and contained a collection of short stories.

Another light novel appeared under the title Inukami Special Edition and was only given out as a promotional gift for the film.

Adaptations

Manga

A manga adaptation, drawn by Mari Matsuzawa , was published between October 27, 2005 and February 27, 2008 in the Dengeki Comic Gao! published by Media Works. The chapters were published from March 27, 2006 to May 27, 2008 in six Tankōbon issues. On September 27, 2006, another manga was released under the title Inukami! Anthology ~ published, which resulted from a collaboration of 16 mangaka . The manga has been licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment for publication in English in North America and is due for release in March 2009.

Anime

An anime produced by Seven Arcs and directed by Keizo Kusakawa was broadcast on TV Tokyo between April 6 and September 28, 2006 in Japan. The anime consists of 26 episodes. The character design was created by Shinpei Tomōka and the artistic director was Shinji Katahira.

The episodes were released from August 2006 to April 2007 on nine DVDs in a limited version and from October to June 2007 in a regular version. The first issue contained only one episode of the series, while all subsequent issues contained three episodes.

The opening song is Hikari ( ヒ カ リ ) by Yui Horie . The final credits song is Yūjō Monogatari ( 友情 物語 ) in multiple versions of Aice 5 , Nana Mizuki and Super Zō-sans & Rice 5 . The first soundtrack for the anime was released on September 21, 2006, and the second followed on November 22, 2006.

Internet radio broadcast

To the anime series Inukami! the Internet radio program Inukami! Web Radio: Koinu no Jikan ( い ぬ か み っ! Web ラ ジ オ こ い ぬ の じ か ん ) produced. The program was broadcast on Starchild Net Radio every Friday from May 12, 2006 to May 25, 2007. The program had 55 episodes and was moderated by Kaori Nazuka and Shizuka Hasegawa , who play the roles of Nadeshiko and Tomohane in the anime series. A CD containing some of the broadcasts was released on January 24, 2007.

computer game

A sound novel with card game features called Inukami! feat. Animation ( い ぬ か み っ! feat. Animation) was released on December 6, 2007 in a limited and regular version by Media Works for the Nintendo DS . The limited edition came out together with a radio play . Many parts of the game were taken from the anime series.

Movie

An animated film called Inukami! The Movie: Tokumei Reiteki Sōsakan Karina Shirō! ( い ぬ か み っ! THE MOVIE 特命 霊 的 捜 査 官 ・ 仮 名 史 郎 っ! ) Was released in Japanese cinemas on April 21, 2007. The film was produced by Seven Arcs , directed by Keizō Kusakawa , and is 25 minutes long. It was also featured as one of three films at Dengeki Bunko's Movie Festival . The other two films were Shakugan no Shana and Kino's Journey . The DVD was released on September 26, 2007 under the King Records label .
