Nana Mizuki

Nana Mizuki ( Japanese 水 樹 奈 々 , Mizuki Nana ), born as Kondō Nana (Japanese 近藤 奈 々; * January 21, 1980 in Niihama ), is a Japanese singer , songwriter and seiyuu (voice actress) .

Life

She spent her childhood in Niihama, where her parents taught her to sing enka (Japanese hits). She made her debut as a voice actress, mainly for anime, in 1998, but she did not release her debut single "Omoi" until 2000 on the King Records label . She released her first album in December 2001.

In the following years Nana had her greatest success with the single " Innocent Starter " (opening for the anime Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha), her first single, which made it into the top 10 of the Japanese Oricon charts (No. 9). Since then, Nana's singles have made it to higher and higher positions in the chart and she has established herself as a pretty successful singer. She is also an extremely popular seiyuu , with more than 130 different synchro roles.

In July 2009 her album Ultimate Diamond reached number 1 on the Oricon charts and her single Phantom Minds , which was released in January 2010, also made it to number 1. Nana is the first Seiyuu singer to make it to the top Reach album and single charts.

Career

Born in Niihama, she started to practice singing at the age of 5. Her parents had a small classroom where they taught people to sing enka songs. Even then, Nana had always dreamed of being on a big stage one day.

In 1993 she released a cassette with the song "Tsugazakura" under the name Nana Kondou. A short time later she won the audition for the game "Noël: La Neige" and became a voice actress. In 1998 she released an image song called "Girl's Age" under the name Chisato Kadokura. When she gave a concert at the age of 20, she was discovered by the record company King Records. Her first single, which she released in 2000 under the name Nana Mizuki, was " Omoi ". In 2004 her single " Innocent Starter " made it to number 9 in the weekly charts and a year later " Eternal Blaze " even made it to number 2.

Nana won the “Best Musical Performance” award with her song “Justice to believe” in the first Seiyū Awards in 2007. When her seventh album Ultimate Diamond landed at number 1 on the Oricon Weekly Album Charts, she became the first seiyū to reach number 1 reached the Oricon chart. Ultimate Diamond sold over 74,000 times in the first week, surpassing popular hip-hop band The Black Eyed Peas with their album The END , which sold 20,000 times in Japan. Nana also managed a second record, because her 21st single Phantom Minds was the first single from a seiyū, which landed at number 1 in the charts.

On November 23, 2009, the Japanese broadcaster NHK announced that Nana will take part in the 60th  Kōhaku Uta alleys . It was the first time Nana took part in the show and she selected her song "Shin Ai" for the performance. The Kōhaku show is considered a great stepping stone in a singer's career in Japan as this show is extremely popular and well known.
