Hakushaku to Yōsei ( Japanese 伯爵 と 妖精 ) is a light novel series by the author Mizue Tani and the illustrator Asako Takaboshi , which has been published in Japan since 2004. It was adapted as a manga , anime and radio play, the manga appears in Germany under the title Earl & Fairy on Tokyopop .

17-year-old Lydia Carlton lives in the countryside in 19th-century Victorian England and is the daughter of a natural history professor in London. She has the ability to talk to fairies and therefore takes care of these beings as a "Fairy Doctor". One day, when she wants to travel to her father in London, she is kidnapped, but finally rescued by Edgar JC Ashenbert. He is the descendant of the legendary blue knight and fights for his legacy. To help him with her skills, Lydia accompanies him from now on.

Light novel
The light novel series has been appearing in Cobalt magazine in Japan since March 2004 . The publishing house Shueisha has also published the chapters in 29 volumes so far. Ching Win Publishing licensed it for publication in Taiwan.
Radio plays
In Japan, Shueisha released two radio plays on the light novel, 2007 and 2008, on CD.
Manga
A manga adaptation of the series designed by Ayuko has been published in The Margaret by Shueisha since September 2008 . The individual chapters have also appeared in four anthologies so far .
In Tokyopop since September 2012, a German translation under the title appears Earl & Fairy . Viz Media licensed the series for an English version , Ching Win Publishing for a Chinese one.
Anime television series
In 2008 the Artland studio produced a twelve-part anime television series based on the light novel. Directed by Koichiro Sotome and the screenplay was written by Noriko Nagao. Maki Fujii did the character design and Mitsuharu Miyamae and Yoichi Yajima were the artistic directors. The series was broadcast in Japan from September 28 to December 23, 2008, initially by AT-X and with a delay of about a week also by the channels Chiba TV, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, TV Aichi, TV Kanagawa and TV Saitama.

The music for the series was composed by Takehiko Gokita . The opening credits song Feeling comes from AciD FLavoR, for the credits the title my fairy by Hikaru Midorikawa was used.
