content

world

In addition to the human world, there is a parallel world, Guze, from which the Guze no Tomogara come, who devour the livelihoods of people. As a result, not only does the person himself disappear, but also his effect on the world as if he had never existed. For this purpose, the eaten people are replaced by so-called torches. These take on the characteristics of the person they are supposed to represent in order to appear in the human world for a certain time. The torches get weaker and weaker until they finally disappear completely. Other people notice them less and less, so that ultimately nobody misses them. These torches consist of a blue flame, the residual energy of humans, which is not perceived by normal people.

The Flame Haze ensure the balance between the human world and the Guze . Flame Haze are fighters who have entered into an alliance with a Guze no Tomogara to fight other Guze no Tomogara when they threaten the balance between the worlds. After a fight has been won, they undo the destruction caused by the fight and convert the remaining energy of the people into torches. These fights are not noticed by normal people because they happen in a spell ( fuzetsu ). Only Flame Haze, Guze no Tomogara , Rinne or Mistes can move in these. Rinne are puppets of the Guze no Tomogara that they use against people.

Mistes are special torches that have a mystical artifact inside with special abilities. Guze no Tomogara can remove these items from such dung and use them. Should a dung be destroyed or its torch burns down, the mystical artifact is transferred to a new torch. This torch then becomes crap too. But which torch the artifact lands at is random.

action

Yūji Sakai has just finished his first day of high school when he witnessed the attack of several gutters in the pedestrian zone. These have a Fuzetsu built and Guze no Tomogara tried Yuji to eat. A Flame Haze appears and fights the gutter . After the fight, Yūji learns from her that he has long been dead. He is no longer a person, just the flame of existence and a piece of crap. The artefact that he carries within him means that he can regenerate his life energy and so does not go out. A classmate of his, who was also in the fuzetsu , also became a torch. However, it disappears soon after Yūji tries to beautify the rest of her life.

Soon Yūji becomes clear about his own impermanence and his relationship with Shana continues to develop.

Characters

Yūji Sakai ( 坂 井 悠 二 , Sakai Yūji )
Yūji , the main character in the series, is your average high school student. However, his world turns upside down when he finds out that he is already dead and has little time before he disappears. Fortunately, Yuji is a mystic that contains a treasure - the Reiji Maigo ( 零時 迷 子 , meaning "lost midnight child "). Unlike other torches, this treasure renews Yuji s life energy at exactly midnight every night. With the Reiji Maigo , Yuji can continue to live like a normal person, as long as he makes sure that his life energy is not completely used up before midnight. Later he begins to get to know and use his as yet untapped powers. After a while he falls in love with Shana and confesses his feelings to her.
Shana ( シ ャ ナ , also Empatsu Shakugan no Uchite , German "warrior with flaming hair and shining eyes")
She is the female lead in the series and a Flame Haze who fights against Guze no Tomogara . At first she only focuses on her duty as Flame Haze, which goes so far that she doesn't even have a name. She sees Yūji only as a torch, an object that is only slightly interesting because of its existence as crap. Nevertheless, she slowly opens up to Yūji , begins to see him as a person despite his existence as a torch and finally falls in love with him. Before she met Yūji she was only known by her Flame Haze title "Warrior with flaming hair and shining eyes" or by the name of her sword Nietono no Shana ( 贄 殿 遮那 , dt. " [Vairo] cana of the gift room"). Yūji , who wants to give her her own identity as a person, gives her the name " Shana " after her sword. Shana has the habit of saying "Urusai!" Three times in a row - translated: "Be quiet!" - whenever Yūji asks her questions or makes comments that disturb her original view. But in reality they like each other. She has a huge fondness for melon bread . Shana later comes to the surprising realization that she loves Yūji and even reveals her love to him in the final episode of the first season when she thought she was going to die, but he couldn't hear what she was saying. Shana is constantly torn between her mission to maintain balance and her love for Yūji . Due to a decision she makes towards the end of the anime's first season, the closeness they once had began to fall apart when Yūji kept their distance from her because of that decision. Still, it seems that Shana and Yūji were able to restore their old bond.
Alastor ( ア ラ ス ト ー ル , Arasutōru )
A tomogara that is concerned with the balance between the human world and Guze . That is why he uses Shana to kill the tomogara , who indiscriminately devour human existences and so severely disturb the balance. His appearance is the amulet that Shana wears around her neck.
Kazumi Yoshida ( 吉田 一 美 , Yoshida Kazumi )
Yūji's schoolmate is in love with him, which she confesses to him towards the end of the first season. She is constantly waging a "fight" against Shana for Yuji's heart.
Marcocias ( マ ル コ シ ア ス , Marukoshiasu )
As Tomogara , like Alastor, he hunts the other Tomogara , but for different reasons. His appearance is the book that Margery always carries with her.
Margery Daw ( マ ー ジ ョ リ ー ・ ド ー , Mājorī Dō )
The Flame Haze hates the Guze no Tomogara and, unlike Shana , she doesn't care about the balance between the dimensions, she kills all monsters without exception. Margery is also a drinker and in doing so is rude with her talking book, Marcocias.
Keisaku Satō ( 佐藤 啓 作 , Satō Keisaku )
Kei is one of Yuji's schoolmates . He meets Margery Daw with his friend Eita Tanaka , whereupon the two help her. He's rich and has a big house, but that doesn't interest him. Since his parents are never there (and since there is an immense supply of alcohol in the house), Margery stays with him after a certain time.
Eita Tanaka ( 田中 栄 太 , Tanaka Eita )
He is Kei's best friend and also in Yuji and the others' class. Eita often calls Margery Ane-san , a respectful and outdated form of address for an older / older sister or person who is perceived as such.
Matake Ogata ( 緒 方 真 竹 , Ogata Matake )
Ogata is a classmate of Yuji and friends. She is in love with Eita Tanaka and tells him so at a festival. In the second season the two become a couple.
Hayato Ike ( 池 速 人 , Ike Hayato )
Ike has been Yuji's best friend since middle school . Because of his high average he could have gone to any other high school, but goes to the same school as Yuji, who is his only friend.
