Invermay House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Invermay House is a mansion near the Scottish town of Forgandenny in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. Invermay House goes back to today's Old House of Invermay . The nearby Tower House is separately protected as a Category A building.

history

The Tower House as the seat of the Belshes probably dates back to the late 16th century. In 1633 and again around the middle of the 18th century the house was redesigned. With the construction of Invermay House around 1770, the old Tower House became obsolete and fell into disrepair. It was described as a ruin in the 1860s before it was finally restored in the first half of the 20th century.

The ground floor of the Invermay House, completed around 1770, was redesigned around 1804 according to plans by Alexander Laing . Around 1904 a wing with a billiard room was added.
