Ion Stoica on the peace voyage in 1961

Ion Stoica (born November 14, 1939 ) is a former Romanian cyclist who was active in the 1960s.

Stoica was a state amateur in Romanian cycling and rode for the army sports club Steaua Bucharest . His activities are only known from road races. The Romanian Cycling Federation nominated him for the first time in 1959 for the three-country stage race Internationale Friedensfahrt . In the final ranking of 92 placed drivers, Stoica came in as fourth-best Romanian in 48th place. In 1960 and 1961 he also took part in the peace drive and in 1960 was best of his team with rank 26. In the 1961 tour, two teammates placed in front of him, but Stoica still achieved his best peace run rating with 19th place. With his team he surprisingly won second place in the team classification. After a break of two years, he still contested the peace drives in 1964 and 1965. In the 1964 race, he achieved his only peace drive stage win when he proved to be the fastest spurter in a mass finish. On the 193-kilometer sixth stage from East Berlin to Leipzig , he had reached a speed of 39.1 km / h. In the final ranking he landed in 22nd place and was third-best Romanian. On his last peace run in 1965, with 75 finishers, he finished 36th with a gap of half an hour, four of his team-mates were faster.
