Iosif Ritter (born December 2, 1921 in Timișoara , Timiș County , † August 30, 2006 ) was a Romanian football player and referee . He denied 177 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .

Career as a player

Ritter began his career in his hometown Timișoara near Chinezul . In 1938 he moved to Rapid Bucharest , where - apart from a brief break in 1940 - he stayed until 1945. On April 27, 1941, he arrived at Rapid to its first use in the highest Romanian league, the Divizia A . In 1941 and 1942 he won the Romanian Cup twice, but only as a substitute.

After the war ended , Ritter left the capital and returned to Timișoara, where he played with CFR Timișoara (later Locomotiva Timișoara) until 1955 . There he was able to participate in the two greatest successes of the club in the 1947/48 season, the runner-up and reaching the cup final .

National team

Iosif Ritter played 17 games for the Romanian national soccer team , but scored no goal. He had his first appearance on September 30, 1945 against Hungary , the first international match after the Second World War .

Career as a referee

After the end of his active career, Ritter worked as a referee and led, among other things, several European Cup games and the Romanian Cup final in 1967 . From 1960 to 1972 he whistled a total of 88 games in the highest Romanian league, the Divizia A .
