ι Bootis (Iota Bootis, pronunciation: Bo-otes , short ι Boo , historical proper name Asellus Secundus , Latin second donkey ) is a star in the Bear Guardian constellation , about 95 light years away .
ι Bootis is a wide double star (angular distance 38.6 ") that can be separated in binoculars. The main star has an apparent magnitude of 4.75 mag and belongs to the spectral class A9 V, the companion has a magnitude of 8.27 likes and belongs to the spectral class A2.
ι Bootis is located - with the close neighboring stars θ and κ Bootis ( Asellus Primus and Asellus Tertius ) on the northern edge of the constellation, close to the drawbar of the Big Dipper .
