Asellus Borealis (Latin for "northern donkey ") is the proper name of the star γ Cancri (Gamma Cancri) in the constellation Cancer . It belongs to the spectral class A1 and has an apparent brightness of +4.7 mag. Its distance is about 160 light years .

Gamma Cancri can be used as ekliptiknaher star from the moon and (very rarely) by planets covered are.

In Greek mythology , Asellus Borealis and Asellus Australis ( southern donkey , second brightest fixed star in Cancer) represent the two pack animals that carried the god Dionysus across a river on one of his wanderings through the Middle East and were moved to heaven in thanks. They stand there on both sides of the shimmering star cluster of the crib ( Praesepe or M44) and enjoy the food.
