The Archdiocese of Huambo ( Latin : Archidioecesis Huambensis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Huambo , Angola. It was detached on September 4, 1940 as the diocese of Nova Lisboa from the diocese of Angole e Congo. In 1950 there were 394,629 Catholics (30.7%) in 37 parishes with 13 diocesan priests , 102 religious priests and 98 religious sisters . On July 27, 1955, the diocese of Sá da Bandeira was spun off and on June 6, 1970 the diocese of Benguela .

On August 10, 1975 there were areas for the establishment of the dioceses diocese Serpa Pinto and Pereira de Eça , so that it now had a size of 29,500 km².

As a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Luanda , it was elevated to the status of an Archdiocese and Metropolitan of the Dioceses of Benguela , Kwito-Bié and Lwena on February 3, 1977 .

In 2002 the current archbishopric had 1,119,590 Catholics (55.6%) in 20 parishes with 41 diocesan, 26 religious priests and 158 religious sisters.
