The diocese of Kwito-Bié ( lat . : Dioecesis Kvitobiensis ) located in Angola was separated from the diocese of Angole e Congo on September 4, 1940 and was given the name Silva Porto.

Subordinate to the Archdiocese of Luanda as a suffragan, in 1950 there were 63,536 Catholics (6.7%) in 2 parishes with 46 religious priests and 15 religious sisters .

On November 15, 1957 ceding some areas to establish the diocese of Malanje , which was followed by more for the new diocese of Luso on May 1, 1963 , in 2002 the 71,000 km² diocese counted 432,626 Catholics (43.3%) in 11 parishes with 13 diocesan priests , 4 religious priests and 7 religious sisters.

Moved to the church province of the Archdiocese of Huambo in 1977 , the diocese of Silva Porto changed its name to Kwito-Bié on May 16, 1979 and moved its seat to Kuito-Bie.
