Pedro Luís António

Pedro Luís António (born January 13, 1921 in Caconda , Huíla Province , † July 25, 2014 in Bié Province ) was Bishop of Kwito-Bié .

Life

Pedro Luís António was baptized on August 28, 1921 in the Caconda Catholic Mission. He attended the Small Seminary in Galangue, later also known as the Nambi Seminar in Bie. He studied philosophy at the seminary in Quipeio (Kaala) and theology at the Christ the King seminary in Huambo. He was ordained a priest on July 20, 1952 and served in the Quipeio Mission District and in the mission stations in Cuima, Cambinda, Yola Mission, and Londuimbale. He founded the station in Alto Hama himself. In 1977 he became Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Huambo .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Kwito-Bié on June 15, 1979. The Archbishop of Huambo, Manuel Franklin da Costa , donated him episcopal ordination on July 29, 1979 in the Cathedral of Huambo ; Co- consecrators were Alexandre do Nascimento , Archbishop of Lubango , and Francisco Viti , Bishop of Menongue .

Pedro Luís António carried out his office under the most difficult political conditions in Angola; including the battle of Cuito Cuanavale . On January 15, 1997, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
