Ipomoea quamoclit is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is spread pantropically .
description
Quamoclit Ipomoea is a herbaceous , annual climber with slender, hairless stems . The leaf blades are 1 to 9 cm long, egg-shaped to elliptical in outline, deeply pinnate, divided into 9 to 19 alternate to opposing pairs of linear lobes.
The flowers are single or in cymes of two to five flowers. The sepals are hairless, elliptical to elongated, 4 to 7 mm long, blunt and covered with a 0.25 to 0.75 mm long spike tip. The crown is colored red or rarely white and 2 to 3 cm long.
The fruits are egg-shaped capsules , 6 to 8 mm in diameter . The seeds are dark to black in color and covered with dark, irregular spots of short trichomes .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.
distribution
The species is spread pantropically and is also cultivated in temperate areas. Original homeland is probably Mexico and Central America, shortly after the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus it was also brought to the Old World .
