Ira Pettiford

Ira Pettiford (* around 1916, † 1982 ) was an American jazz musician ( trumpet , double bass , also guitar and vocals ).

Ira Pettiford was the older brother of jazz bassist Oscar Pettiford and was active in the Twin Cities music scene as a singer and trumpeter from the 1940s . In 1946 he was a trumpeter in the orchestra of Benny Carter in California , with which the first recordings were made. In 1952 he worked (also as a double bass player) in Chicago with Leo Parker ("Leo's Boogie"). In the field of jazz he was involved in 11 recording sessions between 1946 and 1952. In his later years he was mostly active in the Twin Cities region.
