history

Johann Peter Ruckdeschel, master baker and brewer, founded a commercial malt house on September 1, 1856, thus laying the foundation for the Ireks Group, which is now active worldwide. The name Ireks is made up of the initials of Johann Ruckdeschel et Sons, Kulmbach .

His son Johann Andreas Ruckdeschel took over the company in 1888 and built a new plant on the outskirts of the city in 1896 due to capacity bottlenecks. The company's headquarters are still located there today. Under whose leadership was also in 1900 Backmittel on malt Ruckdeschel's Milliose launched. This first flour-like diastatic baking agent based on malt received numerous awards, including at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. The sons of Johann Andreas Ruckdeschel, Albert, Willy, Hans and Robert, were also involved in the family business, which, after the success with the Milliose, turned more and more to baking ingredients. An experimental bakery was founded in 1921 and the company produced the quell flours Millifarin, Secafarin and Pax. From 1927 Ireks published the magazine: Des Bäckers kleine Ratgeber . The product ready-made sour, which reduces the dough fermentation time from 24 to two hours, was first offered for sale in 1930.

After the business had almost come to a standstill as a result of the Second World War, it recovered in the post-war period. In 1955 the Hanoverian Deutsche Arkady GmbH was bought.

Since 1971 Ireks has been active in the pastry range with the Mella brand and, since acquiring the Stamag Stadlauer Malzfabrik, also in malt production . Shortly afterwards, the first baking mix, soy mix, is marketed. Hans Albert Ruckdeschel has been the company's managing director since 1978. The fifth generation of the Ruckdeschel family has also been with the company for years with Stefan Soiné, nephew of Hans Albert Ruckdeschel and member of the management board of Ireks GmbH.

In 2004 Ireks bought the flavor, ice cream and decor manufacturer Dreidoppel.
