Irene was a Swedish twee indie pop band from Gothenburg .

Band history

Irene was founded in 2005 by Tobias Isaksson and friends supposedly spontaneously in their favorite bar in Gothenburg. In any case, the band members already knew each other and the group grew to one octet by autumn 2005 . At times, up to 12 musicians even played and sang in the band. Shortly thereafter, the Swedish independent label Labrador Records became aware of the group and signed them. In the spring of 2006, the first single, Baby I Love Your Way, was released, followed by the EP Little Things (That Tear Us Apart) in August .

In the fall, the band released their debut album Apple Bay , a 24-minute up-beat tribute to the 1960s that received very good reviews from Pitchfork Media . Apple Bay has also been sold through Labrador distributors in the United States, Australia, Thailand, and Taiwan. In spring 2007 the band toured in England, France, Spain and Germany. On the tour, the band was also able to develop musically. Accordingly, on the album Long Gone Since Last Summer, which was released in the same year, the West Coast sound sounded familiar, but with its melancholy nuances also more multifaceted. In autumn 2007 Irene was back in her home country Sweden and at the beginning of 2008 the band started a tour through Spain. Since then there has been no further sign of life from the band.

Trivia

Tobias Isaksson previously played with the band Laurel Music .
