Ireneusz Jeleń [ irɛˈnɛuʃ ˈjɛlɛɲ ] ( ) (born April 9, 1981 in Cieszyn ) is a former Polish football player .
Career
The 1.82 m tall and 74 kg striker began his career in his hometown on the Czech border near Piast Cieszyn. About the fourth division Beskid Skoczów he moved to the first Polish division in 2002 to Wisła Płock , where he immediately became a regular. In 100 league games he scored 45 goals. In 2006 he won the Polish Cup with his club. On December 11, 2003 Jeleń played his first international match against Malta. He has scored four goals in 23 international matches so far. On May 15, 2006 national coach Paweł Janas appointed him to the Polish World Cup squad . There he was only considered a substitute player, due to his strong performance as a substitute in the first group game of the World Cup in the 2-0 draw against Ecuador, he became a regular and in the game against the German national team he was one of the few top performers in the Polish national team. Since July 2006 he played for the club AJ Auxerre in the French Ligue 1 . At the end of August 2011, his move to league rivals OSC Lille became known. After a year in which he was unable to assert himself, his contract was not extended in July 2012. In October 2012 he signed a contract with the Polish first division club Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała until the end of the 2012/13 season . In December 2012, however, he exercised a clause in his contract and dissolved it on January 1, 2013. At the end of February 2013, he then signed a contract until the end of the 2012/13 season with league competitor Górnik Zabrze . But this was not extended and Jeleń was initially without a club. After a year without a club, he finally returned to his home and youth club Piast Cieszyn . Ireneusz Jeleń ended his football career in December 2014.
