Iridium (III) iodide is an inorganic chemical compound of iridium from the group of iodides .

Extraction and presentation

Iridium (III) iodide can be obtained by reacting iridium (IV) iodide with hydrogen at 210 ° C. It can also be obtained by reacting iridium (IV) oxide or iridium (III) hydroxide with hydrogen iodide .

properties

Iridium (III) iodide is a dark brown solid that is practically insoluble in water. It has a monoclinic crystal structure of the chromium (III) chloride type. The trihydrate has a yellow or reddish yellow color and, when heated, converts to dihydrate and anhydrate. A brown monohydrate is also known.
