Irimie Catargiu

Irimie Catargiu (born May 21, 1935 in Capu Codrului, Păltinoasa , Suceava County ) is a former Romanian politician of the Romanian Communist Party PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , who was minister for mining between 1988 and 1989, among other things.

Life

Mining engineer and mine director

Irimie Catargiu attended the secondary school for mining technology in Vatra Dornei from 1949 to 1953 , where she was a member of the committee of the Uniunea Tineretului Muncitor (UTM), the youth organization of the Labor Party. He then took up a professional activity in the mine in Ghelari , where he worked until 1958 as a foreman, section head and department head. In 1957 he became a member of the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) . In 1953 he began studying at the Faculty of Mining, Petroleum and Geology at the Mining Institute in Petroșani , from which he graduated in 1963 as a mining engineer. During his studies he was also a member of the organization office of the party organization at this faculty. He then returned to the Ghelari mine and was chief engineer until 1966. Between 1963 and 1966 he was also a member of the party committee, the committee of the UTM and the committee of the unions in this mine.

In 1966 Catargiu moved to the Leșu Ursului mine in Suceava , where he was chief engineer and most recently its director until 1971. He was then deputy director from 1971 to April 1974 and then director of the Suceava mining combine between April 1974 and October 26, 1984. During this time he completed advanced training courses for executives in economics and state administration at the Academy for Social and Political Sciences (Academia de Stiinte Sociale si Politice) " Ștefan Gheorghiu " and at the University of Politics and Leadership. In 1974 he became a member of the party committee in Suceava County and on March 1, 1974 Corresponding Member of the Romanian Academy (Academia Republicii Socialiste România) .

Central Committee member, minister and deputy

At the Eleventh Party Congress of the PCR (November 24-27, 1974) he became a candidate for the Central Committee (ZK) of the PCR and held this function until the Twelfth Party Congress of the PCR (November 19-23, 1979) . Irimie Catargiu joined the government on October 26, 1984 and was Deputy Minister for Mining until July 2, 1986. In addition, he became director of the Institute for Thermal Engines in Bucharest in 1985 and a member of the National Council for Science and Education on December 31, 1985. Between July 3, 1986 and October 17, 1987, he was Deputy Minister for Mining, Petroleum and Geology and at the same time head of the Department of Metal and Non-Metal Ores of this ministry. Subsequently, from October 17, 1987 to November 24, 1988, he again acted as Vice Minister for Mining.

As the successor to Marin Ștefanache , Catargiu took over on November 24, 1988 in the Dăscălescu II cabinet himself the office of minister for mining (Ministrul minelor) and held this until December 22, 1989. On February 19, 1989 he also became a member of the greats National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) and represented in this until December 22, 1989 the constituency No. 6 Petroșani . For his services he was awarded the Order of Labor Third and Second Class (Ordinul Muncii) .

Even after the collapse of communism, Irimie Catargiu took on various leading positions in administration and business. Among other things, he was Technical Director in the Mining Ministry between January and July 1990 and then General Manager of the Romanian-Chilean joint venture COEMIN from July 1990 to July 1991. He then returned to government service and was head of the mining department in the Ministry of Economic Affairs between August 1991 and June 1993 and then from June 1993 to September 1997 technical director in the National Salt Administration (Regia Națională a Sării) .

From 2007 to 2009 Cataragiu was a deputy member of the employers' organizations of the Advisory Committee on Social Security for Migrant Workers for Romania.
