Irina Feodorovna Schnittke

Irina Fjodorovna Schnittke , b. Katajewa ( Russian Ирина Фёдоровна Шнитке (урождённая Катаева) ; *  1941 in Leningrad ) is a Russian pianist.

Irina Schnittke began her musical training at the age of eight at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and continued it at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow . Her teachers were Anna Schklowskaja , Jakow Flier and Leonid Brumberg .

Since 1961 she was married to the composer Alfred Schnittke .

She is considered a specialist in works by Russian composers of the 20th century such as Sergei Prokofiev , Georgi Swiridow , Nikolai Slonimski , Boris Tishchenko , Valeri Gavrilin and Anatoli Schalajew . Alfred Schnittke dedicated his Variations on a Chord and his Piano Sonata No. 2 .

With Mark Lubotsky and Mstislav Rostropowitsch she performed numerous chamber music works by her husband. With Gidon Kremer and the Kronos Quartet she went on concert tours through the USA, Europe and Australia. Since 1984 she has formed a piano duo with Viktoria Postnikowa . In 1994 she played the world premiere of Alfred Schnittke's violin sonata No. 3 with Mark Lubotsky.
