Mark Lubotsky

Mark Lubotsky ( Russian Марк Давыдович Лубоцкий , scientific transliteration Mark Davydovič Lubockij ; born May 18, 1931 in Leningrad ) is a Russian violinist .

Life

At the age of seven he went to Moscow, first to the Central Music School in Moscow and later to the Conservatory, where he was a student of Abram Jampolski and David Oistrach . Before completing his studies, one of the winners was at the World Youth Festival in Berlin (1951), at an international competition in Salzburg in 1956 and at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1958 . This was the beginning of his concert appearances in Russia and abroad. He performed and made recordings with the Moscow and Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestras and the State Symphony Orchestra.

After emigrating to Holland, his career began in Western Europe and the USA in 1976. He has also performed in Japan, Australia and New Zealand, was a guest at the festivals of Santa Fe, Norfolk, Taukubi, Cheltenham, Aldeburgh , Bath and Dartington and worked under conductors such as Benjamin Britten , Kyrill Kondrashin , Eugene Ormandy , Mstislav Rostropovich , Yevgeny Svetlanov , Bernard Haitink , Gennadi Roschdestwenski and Kurt Sanderling .

In addition to the classical-romantic repertoire, he is particularly interested in contemporary music. He had a lifelong friendship with Alfred Schnittke . After he premiered his first violin concerto in Moscow in 1963, Schnittke dedicated his second violin concerto and three of his violin sonatas to him. With Irina Schnittke and Mstislav Rostropowitsch he also played the world premiere of Schnittke's piano trio. Under the direction of the composer, Lubotsky recorded in Benjamin Britten's Violin Concerto on LP; Britten stated: This is the performance I have been waiting for. More recently he has devoted himself increasingly to the work of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt . On two LPs, he presented the first recordings of works by the almost forgotten composer Nikolai Roslavets .

Lubotsky's preferred piano partners are Luba Edlina , Boris Berman , Peter Frankl , Ralf Gothóni , Brenno Ambrosini and Dimitri Vinnik. With Katarina Andreasson and his wife Olga Dowbusch-Lubotsky he forms the Lubotsky Trio.

In addition, Lubotsky was also a violin teacher, he taught at the Moscow Gnessin Institute and after his emigration at the Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Hamburg Conservatoires . He has given masterclasses at Toho University in Tokyo, the University of Auckland in New Zealand, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London , the Saint Petersburg Conservatory , the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and in Gothenburg .
