Irina Kuhnt

Irina Kuhnt (born January 18, 1968 in Bad Harzburg ; after marriage to Irina Volkert ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic participant.

Irina Kuhnt began her career at Eintracht Braunschweig , where she came second in the 1986 German Field Hockey Championship. After moving to the Berliner HC , she won the German championship title in field hockey in 1994 and 1996 , and was successful indoors in 1995 and 1996.

In 1988 Irina Kuhnt won the European Junior Championship, in 1989 she was Junior World Champion. In 1987 the defender made her debut in the German national hockey team and was part of the winning team at the European Indoor Championships, in 1990 and 1992 she won this title again. On the field, after finishing eighth at the 1990 World Cup , the team achieved second place at the 1991 European Championship . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , Kuhnt was in all five games and won the silver medal after losing 2-1 to Spain.

For winning the silver medal in 1992, she received the silver laurel leaf on June 23, 1993.

This was followed by fourth place at the 1994 World Cup and bronze at the 1995 European Championship . In their second Olympic participation in Atlanta in 1996 , the German team finished sixth. Irina Kuhnt played a total of 147 international matches between 1987 and 1996, 9 of them indoors.
