The Iris lutescens ( Iris lutescens ) is a plant from the genus of the iris ( Iris ) in the family of the Iridaceae (Iridaceae).
features
The yellowish iris is a perennial . It has a thick rhizome . The flowers stand alone or in pairs and have little smell. The leaves are sword-shaped and measure 5 to 35 centimeters × 5 to 25 millimeters. They usually do not tower above the flowers. The stem reaches heights of 3 to 35 centimeters and is unbranched. The flowers are purple, yellow, whitish or purple and piebald. The corolla tube has a length of 2 to 5 centimeters. It is not completely enclosed by the green or at the tip membranous bract. The 3 bent-back outer petals each have a beard of long, yellow, multicellular hair. They are 5 to 7.5 inches long, 2 to 3.5 inches wide. The 3 upright inner petals have a length of 5.5 to 7.5 centimeters and a width of 2 to 3.5 centimeters.
Flowering time is from March to May.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 40.
Occurrence
The yellowish iris occurs in the western and central Mediterranean area, but is absent in North Africa. It grows on dry slopes and garrigues .
