Irma Hildebrandt (born June 17, 1935 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss writer. In addition to biographies and essays, she writes short prose, poetry and radio plays.

Life

Born on June 17, 1935 in Hergiswil / Switzerland , Irma Hildebrandt, nee. Bucher, in Lucerne. After training as a teacher at the Lucerne seminar, she studied German (with Emil Staiger, among others ) and Romance languages ​​in Zurich. After marrying Helmut Thor Laux, lecturer at the Pan-European Studienwerk Vlotho, she moved to Northern Germany. As a mother of four children (born between 1958 and 1963), she was involved in school and extracurricular educational work and helped set up the youth art school Vlotho; from 1980 to 1985 she was first chairwoman, for many years she headed the children's theater group, for which she also wrote plays. After the death of her husband, she studied German literature, sociology and theater education at Bielefeld University . In 1977 she married the sociologist Walter Hildebrandt , with whom she also wrote two books together. She has been living in Switzerland again since 2007.

Irma Hildebrandt has been a journalist since 1979. From 1983 to 2020 she was the editor in charge of the magazine “Frau und Kultur”. As a member of the writers' association PEN , the European authors' association Die Kogge eV and the artists' association GEDOK , she was active as a federal advisory council and literature prize juror from 1986 to 1996. The author and editor lived in Vlotho an der Weser from 1957 to 2006, and in Lucerne since 2007. There she is a member of the Central Switzerland writers' association ISSV. In addition to biographies and essays, she writes short prose, poetry and radio plays. Several non-fiction books, selected biographies and some volumes of poetry have been translated into Spanish, French, English and Japanese; she received various awards for short prose and poetry.

  • 1999: Poetry Prize of the Rauner Foundation Bochum (for the collection of poems courtyards )
  • 2009: Literature Prize, 11th Bern Poetry Competition (poem rehearsal , in: Stauffacher Buchhandlungen)
  • 2015: ISSV Short Stories Competition (Entry: 1943 in the Gray House , published in: “Yesterday. Childhood in Central Switzerland”)
