Irmgard Vogt

Irmgard Vogt (born May 8, 1941 in Tübingen ) is a German psychologist and sociologist. She is one of the best-known social science addiction researchers in Germany with a focus on women and addiction, counseling, addiction and old age. Together with Sebastian Scheerer and Henner Hess , she published the standard work drug and drug policy in 1989 .

Career and impact

The graduate psychologist received her doctorate from the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Münster in 1970 phil. PhD and habilitation at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in 1983 . She has been a private lecturer there since 1983. She taught in the department of psychology a. a. in Münster, Hamburg, Bremen, Bochum, Hagen, Marburg and in the department of sociology a. a. in Frankfurt. From 1992 to 2009 she was a professor at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences . She was co-founder and until her retirement in 2009 director of the Institute for Addiction Research Frankfurt at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. With her research on alcoholism and drug addiction in women, she has made significant contributions to the elaboration of the specific addictions of women, also to the connection between sexual violence and addiction in women, and in particular to the treatment alternatives for women in counseling facilities for women only and in inpatient facilities who offer specific offers for addicted women and have developed corresponding work concepts. Together with the specialist group Women in Psychosocial Work of the German Society for Behavioral Therapy , she has presented fundamental work on the topic of sexual assault in psychotherapy. The activities of this group have led to the fact that this topic is now firmly anchored in the training of psychological psychotherapists. A similar anchoring of the topic in the training of social workers is still pending. Since 1998, Vogt, together with a very large working group, has campaigned for the introduction of the treatment of long-term drug addicts with diamorphine. She worked on the German model project for heroin-assisted treatment; Partial studies on psychosocial treatment in the heroin project were affiliated with the Institute for Addiction Research in Frankfurt. In 2008 she took over the management of the EU-funded project Help for older drug addicts , which was completed in 2010.
