Iryna Andrijiwna Zilyk ( Ukrainian Ірина Андріївна Цілик ; born November 18, 1982 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian writer and director . Iryna Zilyk was the winner of the director's award at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival for the film “The earth is blue like an orange” .

life and career

Iryna Zilyk graduated from the National University of Theater, Cinematography and Television | Kiev National University of Theater, Cinematography and Television. Today she works as a director.

She also writes poems, songs and prose texts that have been translated into German, English, French, Czech, Lithuanian and Polish. Selected works have been presented at various international literary festivals and events, including a. Poetry Festival Berlin 2017,  Leipzig Book Fair 2017,  Frankfurt Book Fair  2016, "Lyrik für Alle" (Babelsprech-Conference, Salzburg 2016), Vilnius Book Fair 2016, Meridian Chernivtsi (Ukraine, 2015-2016), Author's Reading Month (Czech Republic, Slovakia 2016), Vilenica International literary festival (Slovenia 2008) and others.

She is married to the writer Artem Czech ( Артем Чех ) and has one son.

Movies

  • The earth is blue like an orange ( Ukrainian Земля блакитна, ніби апельсин ; documentary, 74 min ', 2020). The world premiere took place at the Sundance Film Festival 2020 and was honored with the "Directing Award: World Cinema Documentary". The European premiere of the film took place at the Berlin International Film Festival 2020 in the “Generation” section. In addition, the film was awarded two main prizes at the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival 2020 and officially for participation in the Museum of Modern Art Doc Fortnight (USA), Copenhagen International Documentary Festival, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival , Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, Institute of Contemporary Arts : Frames of Representation (UK), DOK.fest Munich and at more than 20 other international film festivals worldwide.
  • Tayra (Ukrainian Тайра , short documentary, 10 ', 2017) and Kind (Ukrainian Малиш , short documentary, 15', 2017) for the almanac "Invisible Battalion" about Ukrainian women in the war in Eastern Ukraine.
  • Commemoration ceremony (Ukrainian Помин ). Short film, 24 ', 2012. Was awarded the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the Molodist International Film Festival . The film officially took part in the competitions of more than 30 film festivals, including: "Drama International Short Film Festival" (Greece, 2013), "Women Make Waves" (Taiwan, 2013), "Tehran International Short Film Festival" (Iran, 2013), “Odessa International Film Festival” (Ukraine, 2013). The film was included in the “Ukrainian New Wave. Romantigue ”, which was released in 2013 in Ukraine.
