Isaac Ben-Israel ( Hebrew יצחק בן ישראל; * July 26, 1949 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli major general , military theorist , security advisor and politician ( Kadima ).

Life

Ben-Israel attended the Herzliya Hebrew High School . He joined the Israeli Air Force (IAF) in 1967 ; In 2002 he retired. He studied mathematics , physics and philosophy at Tel Aviv University . In 1988 he received his Ph.D. He headed the IAF Operations Research Branch, Analysis and Assessment Division of IAF Intelligence. From 1991 to 1997 he was chief developer in the research and development department of the Israel Defense Forces . In 1998 he was promoted to brigadier general and appointed director of defense R&D in the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure.

He then became a professor at Tel Aviv University, where he headed the Curiel Center for International Studies from 2002 to 2004 and the Security Studies program from 2004 to 2007. From 2002 to 2004 he was also director of the Jaffe Center for Strategic Studies. From 2002 he organized the Workshop for Science, Technology and Security.

Since 2005 he has been Chairman of the Israel Space Agency and the National Council for Research and Development at the Israel Ministry of Science. In 2000 he became Advisory Council of the Neaman Institute for Advanced Studies in Science and Technology at Technion in Haifa, in 2009 head of the Zionist Council's Strategic Forum and in 2010 a board member of the Fisher Institute for Air and Space Strategic Studies. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the Ariel University Center in Samaria , Academic Council of Afeka College of Engineering, Member of the Scientific Committee of the Center for Technological Analysis and Forecasting in Tel Aviv, the International Academy of Astronautics and Singapore Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council.

Ben-Israel was a member of the Knesset from 2007 to 2009 as a successor to Shimon Peres, who was elected president . He was a member of the Security and Foreign Affairs Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Science & Technology Committee. He was also chairman of the Homeland Security Sub Committee and the Israeli-Indian Parliamentary Friendship Association. In 2010, he founded the Israel National Cyber ​​Bureau in the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu .

He was on the Board of Directors of the aircraft construction company Israel Aerospace Industries from 2000 to 2002 and of the listed Israel Corporation from 2004 to 2007 , of the Advisory Board for R&D at Teva Pharmaceutical Industries from 2003 to 2007 and Chairman of the TEIC Technion Entrepreneurial Incubator Company in 2007. In 2003 he founded RAY TOP Technologies, of which he is CEO .

He published numerous papers on military science and security policy, for which he was also awarded.

Ben-Israel is married and has three sons.
