Isaac Prager

Isaac Emil Prager (born 1847 in Lendzin , Upper Silesia ; died 1905 ) was a liberal rabbi .

Prager was born in Lendzin in Upper Silesia and studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau , where he also received his doctorate. From 1877 he was director of the Jewish religious school in Hanover . In 1880 he became director of the teacher training institute (for Jewish teachers) in Hanover. From 1885 until his death in 1905 he worked as a regional rabbi in the Kassel district of the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau .

Isaac Prager was known and respected as a preacher. Even non-Jewish citizens are said to have come to the synagogue to listen to him. In addition, Prager is said to have been very committed to the poor.

He was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bettenhausen . The Israelite Congregation of Cassel had the following engraved on his tombstone :

"To the self-sacrificing leader, the enthusiastic proclaimer of divine teaching, the selfless promoter of hard-working veneration in constant gratitude. The wisdom of your mind / the goodness of your heart were a blessing in our community."
