The Autobahnkurier 116i of the Saarland manufacturer Isdera is a in 2006 as a one-off built 2 + 2-seater sports car .
Development / production
In 1984 a 2 + 2-seater sports car with two eight-cylinder engines , automatic transmission and all-wheel drive was to be developed in the style of the 1930s . The design should have the classic streamlined shape of that time with wide curved fenders and side skirts . Planning started back in 1984, but the project has been suspended in the meantime. Many years later, Eberhard Schulz , the founder of Isdera , then fulfilled his dream and completed his “retirement project”. The Autobahnkurier had its international world presentation in 2006 on the occasion of the AvD Concours d'Elegance in Schwetzingen .
So far, only one single piece of the gigantic model has been produced and is owned by the company. Some parts (doors, handles, roof, windows) of the vehicle come from the VW Beetle .
Performance
The Autobahnkurier is powered by two Mercedes-Benz M 117 V8 engines with a total of 600 hp (441 kW). One engine acts on the front axle, the other on the rear axle, but in contrast to other twin engine concepts, both engines are located under the front hood. The top speed is 242 km / h.
