Isegrim (cross-reference: The Forest Guardian ) is a Soviet drama film directed by Roman Balajan and produced in the Soviet Union in 1978 . The film was in 1978 as part of the Berlinale in Berlin shown. It contains unusually little dialogue.
action
The main character is a taciturn forest ranger who protects the forest against wood theft and poaching by the poor rural population for his noble lord. He himself also lives at subsistence level in a hut in the forest. His wife has left him. So he has to look after his two small children by himself.

The film is based on the story Biryuk from the collection of Notes of a Hunter by Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev . It was produced by the Dovchenko Film Studios . The German TV first broadcast took place on July 26, 1979 in the 2nd channel of the GDR television (there under the title Isegrim ) and on September 27, 1985 on ARD .

The lexicon of international films judges that Der Waldhüter is a “technically adept, atmospherically coherent first feature film”.
