Isidro Ungab

Isidro T. Ungab (born May 8, 1961 ) is a Filipino bank manager and politician of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) and currently the Liberal Party (LP), who has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2007 .

Life

Bank manager

After attending school, Ungab completed a degree in agricultural sciences at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños , which he completed in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science (BS Agriculture). He then entered the public service and initially worked as an economic analyst in the Ministry of Human Settlements , headed by Imelda Marcos , from July 1 to October 31, 1983, and then from November 1, 1984 to February 28, 1986 at the office of President Ferdinand Marcos . After his fall in the course of the EDSA revolution , he switched to the National Livelihood Support Fund (NLSF ) as a project planning specialist on February 1, 1986 , where he worked until December 31, 1987. On February 1, 1988, he became an employee of the Northern Mindanao Development Bank (NMDB), where he was initially a customer advisor and then from December 1, 1988 manager of the credit department, before he was manager in their department from March 1, 1990 to November 30, 1991 for special projects.

Ungab also worked as a consultant at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) between July 1, 1990 and May 31, 1991, and during this time also completed a course for bank executives at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in Makati City . On December 1, 1993, he became a manager of the Mindanao Development Bank (MDB) and then acted as a consultant between June 1, 1993 and November 30, 1994, before becoming a consultant again from December 1, 1994 to January 31, 1996 the Asian Development Bank.

Member of the House of Representatives

Ungab began his political career when he became a member of the City Councilor of Davao City on July 1, 1995 and was a member of it until June 30, 2004. He then worked as an entrepreneur between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2007, and owned Ungab Farms .

In the elections of May 14, 2007 Ungab was elected for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives for Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) and has since represented the constituency of Davao City 3rd District in this . In the elections on May 10, 2010 , he was re-elected with 65,029 votes (43.64 percent) and was able to prevail against the candidate of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) and former MP, Ruy Elias Lopez , with 43,828 votes (29 , 41 percent). During this 15th  legislative period , from July 1, 2010 to December 1, 2011, he was initially Vice-Chairman of the Approval Committee and then from January 1, 2012 to June 1, 2013, Chairman of the so-called “Approaches and Resources Committee "( House Committee on Ways and Means ).

During this time Ungab completed postgraduate studies in administrative sciences at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DPM), which he completed in 2012 with a Master of Public Administration (MPA). In addition, he completed the command and staff general course (CSGC ) as a reserve officer in 2012 at Camp Aguinaldo , the headquarters of the armed forces of the Philippines . He is Lieutenant Colonel of the Army Reserve and currently commander of the 3rd Metro Davao Infantry Battalion (Ready Reserve) belonging to the 22nd Infantry Division (Ready Reserve) .

He was in the elections of May 13, 2013 unopposed ( unopposed re-elected). In the current 16th legislative period, which lasts from 2013 to 2016, he is chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Appropriations . He is responsible for all matters relating to the expenditure of the national government, including the payment of public debts. This committee also deals with the creation or abolition and grading of offices in the government and the determination of salaries, additional payments and special allowances for government employees.

Since Ungab has reached the maximum consecutive eligibility of nine years, he will not be allowed to run again in the upcoming elections on May 9, 2016 , and will therefore leave the House of Representatives.
