history
The Isle of Man received regular ferry connections with the mainland for the first time in 1767. Today's shipping company Isle of Man Steam Packet Company was founded on June 30, 1830 under the name Mona's Isle Company (named after the shipping company's first ship) to compete with the existing ferry companies, in particular the St. George Steam Packet Company from Liverpool. The ferry service has continued to this day. In 2006, the Australian investment bank Macquarie Bank acquired the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for around £ 225 million.
