The Islote Viña del Mar ( Spanish ) is a small island in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located northeast of Cape Skottsberg in Mikkelsen Harbor on Trinity Island .
Participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1904) under the direction of Otto Nordenskjöld discovered them, but did not name them. Chilean scientists named it after the port city of Viña del Mar in Chile , a former port of the Chilean whaling fleet .
