Ismail Gulgee

Amin Ismail Gulgee (born October 25, 1926 in Peshawar , † December 16, 2007 in Karachi ) was an internationally renowned Pakistani artist in Peshawar.

Gulgee was famous for his abstract painting and portraits. He was artistically influenced by traditional Islamic calligraphy and the American art movement Action Painting , whereby his calligraphic paintings can be understood as expressive interpretations of Arabic characters.

On December 18, 2007, Gulgee was found murdered in his home with his wife and a domestic worker.
