Ismar Freund (born April 11, 1876 in Breslau ; † February 21, 1956 in Jerusalem ) was a German lawyer and historian of the Prussian emancipation of Jews .

Life

Freund studied law and economics at the University of Breslau (doctorate in 1900) and completed the Jewish-theological seminar . From 1902 to 1938 he was a full-time board member and syndic of the Berlin Jewish Community and co-founder of the Prussian State Association of Jewish Congregations. From 1905 he was a lecturer in state church law at the College for the Science of Judaism .

In November 1938 he was sent to Buchenwald concentration camp, and in 1939 he was able to emigrate to Palestine .
