Otto Brandis

Otto Moritz Wilhelm Brandis (born September 7, 1856 in Lübeck , † July 20, 1917 in Hamburg ) was a German judge .

Life

Brandis was a son of the Lübeck Higher Appeal Court Judge Hermann Friedrich Brandis . He grew up in Lübeck and attended the Katharineum , which he left at Easter 1876 with the Abitur. Brandis studied law in Leipzig , Munich and Göttingen and was one of the last to pass an additional state examination at the Court of Appeal on July 18, 1879. After completing military service, he settled in Hamburg as a lawyer in 1880. He associated himself with Max Predöhl and Schlüter. In February 1885 Brandis was appointed judge in the Hamburg civil service. In 1890 he was chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. He was appointed judge at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in 1893. In early 1910 he became President of a Senate and on February 23, 1912 he was appointed President of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court after Richard Löhmann had retired.
