Isoxazole is a nitrogen-containing heterocycle derived from furan and pyrrole . In contrast to the isomeric oxazole , the oxygen atom is next to the nitrogen.

Isoxazole rings are found in some natural products such as B. Ibotenic acid . Isoxazoles are also the basis for a number of drugs, e.g. B. the COX-2 inhibitor valdecoxib (Bextra).
