Issai Israilewitsch Gurevich

Issai Israilewitsch Gurewitsch ( Russian Исай Израилевич Гуревич , also: Issai Isidorowitsch Gurewitsch ; * July 13, 1912 in Riga ; † December 6, 1992 in Moscow ) was a Soviet physicist .

After graduating from Leningrad University in 1934, he was at the Radium Institute of the Soviet Academy of Sciences and from 1945 at the Kurchatov Institute (then Laboratory 2 ).

In 1946 he was one of the authors of a memorandum on the development of the hydrogen bomb in the USSR, along with Jakow Borissowitsch Seldowitsch , Juli Chariton and Isaak Pomeranschuk . In addition to neutron physics and reactor theory, he dealt with muonium and the spin precession of positive muons in muonium in strong magnetic fields. In 1971, he discovered the occurrence of two precession frequencies.

Gurevich was a corresponding member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences from 1968.

In 1980 he received the Kurchatov gold medal . He had been a member of the CPSU since 1951 .
