Itapecerica da Serra is a Município in the southwest of the state of São Paulo in Brazil .
According to the 2010 census, the city has 152,614 inhabitants, who are called Itapecericanoer. The number of inhabitants was calculated according to the estimate of the IBGE from July 1, 2014 to 165,327 inhabitants. The area is 150,869 km²; the population density in 2010 was 1,012 people per km².
history
The original village was founded on September 3, 1562 by a Jesuit priest. In 1689 there were more than 900 people in the Itapecerica chapel community. Itapecerica became a parish in 1841 and received city rights in 1906. By decree of November 30, 1944, Itapecerica was given the addition "da Serra".
