The Itelteich is located about 1.6 km southeast of Walkenried in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony .
description
It was artificially dammed by the Cistercian monks of the Walkenried monastery and served as a fish pond. At its western end it is fed by karst springs and flows underground via a shrinkage to the east, with the watercourse crossing the Himmelreichhöhle . The Itelteich lies within the Itelteich nature reserve and on the karst hiking trail .
The southern Harz line runs directly north of the pond .
