iteraplan is software for the management of an enterprise architecture , with a focus on IT development management. The aim of iteraplan is to enable a quick introduction to EAM , to simplify EAM through tool support and to promote the cooperation of company architects.

properties

With iteraplan all areas of a company architecture can be mapped. Not only the IT-relevant areas, but the entire company, such as the business architecture, the information system architecture and the technical architecture, are recorded.

  • Functional domains are the highest and coarsest structure of the company, they describe the essential functional units.
  • Business processes are a sequence of business activities that strive for a certain result. Business processes in their entirety implement the business task.
  • A technical function is a self-contained and coherent activity, e.g. B. Create customer.
  • A product is the result of the value chain. Products can be goods or services.
  • Business units are the individual units of the organizational structure , which can be departments or locations.
  • Business objects are concrete or abstract objects that are used by business processes and implemented by information systems, e.g. B. Customer or order.
  • An information system domain combines various information systems according to one or more criteria. They are often used to divide the application landscape on the one hand and the responsibilities for development planning on the other.
  • An information system is software or a software package that supports the technical functions.
  • With IT service , for example, a company's service catalog can be mapped.
  • Information flows describe the exchange of business objects between information systems.
  • Architectural domains are the structuring of the blueprint, the standardization catalog for the technical development.
  • Technical building blocks are the information required to implement information systems or interfaces.
  • Infrastructure elements are the logical hardware and network units on which the information systems are operated, e.g. B. clients, servers, storage.
  • A project is a one-time process that consists of a set of coordinated, controlled activities with a start and end date and is carried out in order to achieve a goal while taking into account constraints regarding time, costs and resources.

After recording the current situation, iteraplan can also map the desired target situation. It is possible to set up different target states, for example one after the other in time. In addition to the graphic preparation of these different development plans, there are numerous other visualization options in iteraplan. There are portfolio and information flow graphics, assignment tables and lists. All graphical evaluations can be adapted to your own needs and saved.

Via an Excel and XMI import / export function, data from iteraplan can be further processed with other programs. A REST interface is also available.

Licenses

In addition to the free Lite Edition, there is also a paid Corporate Edition. This offers the following additional functions:

  • While the Lite Edition only HSQLDB - databases supported, the Corporate Edition with MySQL - MS SQL or Oracle databases are operated.
  • The use of different users , roles and rights is possible in the Corporate Edition.
  • With an individual appearance , the Corporate Edition can be adapted to the look and feel of the company.
  • While the Lite Edition only allows 10 user-defined attributes , any number can be managed in the Corporate Edition.
  • The Corporate Edition can be connected to an existing LDAP server or operated in an Active Directory in single sign-on mode.
  • The initial acquisition of existing data is facilitated via a data import interface .
  • In order to enable the switch to new iteraplan releases, migration scripts are made available for the Corporate Edition , which can be used to easily transfer existing data to new versions.
  • The Graphics Reactor and the Plugin API are only available in the Corporate Edition.
  • Data historization is only available in the Corporate Edition.

history

The first version of the application was developed by iteratec in 2004 and was used by customers of iteratec GmbH as an EAM tool. The versions 1.0 to 1.8 were created as closed source until mid-2007.

At the beginning of 2008, the source code was first set on SourceForge as an open source project and at the same time published in the completely revised version 2.0 under the AGPL open source license . Since then, iteraplan has attracted a lot of attention and has been widely used, among others by corporations such as HUK-COBURG , Otto , VKB-Bank but also in authorities such as the HPA

Version 2.1 was released in May 2008 with bug fixes and numerous new functions. Version 2.2, published in February 2009, was characterized by refactorings . Version 2.3 followed in May 2009, which brought a lot of convenience functions with it.

The next major leap in development to version 3.0 took place in April 2012. The most important changes included the technology change on Twitter Bootstrap with a clearer user interface and the responsive web design for iteraplan use on smartphones and tablet computers .

Version 3.1 from July 2013 brought a number of bug fixes and usability improvements as well as new functions in the area of life cycle management and roadmap planning. Version 3.2 offers a REST interface and improves both the dashboard function and the visualizations. Version 3.3 was further developed with a focus on integration and usability . In version 3.4 the integration and especially the import and export have been further improved and accelerated. As of version 3.4, iteraplan is no longer under the AGPL license.

With the current version 5, two larger topics were addressed. On the one hand - based on the feedback from the iteraplan community - extensions to the metamodel were carried out. With the new “IT service” type and numerous other link options between existing types, iteraplan 5 offers excellent options for capturing a wide variety of IT landscapes. On the other hand, the new and innovative interaction concept, in which the visualization of the data and its maintenance are combined in a unique way, enables simpler EAM. With version 5.0.5 the iteraplan Graphics Reactor was introduced, with which any customer-specific evaluations and visualizations based on XSLT transformations can be created. Versions 5.1 and 5.2 significantly expand the new client introduced with Release 5 and the visualizations it contains.

With the 5.3 release in August 2016, a plugin API was introduced. B. Automate calculations on the data. In addition, the Graphics Reactor has been expanded so that evaluations and visualizations can always be made available in the company. Version 5.4 adds u. a. three new diagrams added, version 5.5 offers a new navigator.

Release 6.0 completes the changeover to the new interaction concept. The dashboards and administration have also been improved. In Release 6.1, the data model and the plug-in API are greatly expanded, and global adjustments to the application, e.g. B. possible in look & feel. With Release 6.2, the data navigator and various diagrams are expanded, and there is also a comment function. The application also offers a DSGVO / EUGDPR-compliant option to remove personal data. A survey function for decentralized data maintenance was added in Release 6.3, as well as a HotSpot diagram and the Diagram Builder for creating your own visualizations. The releases 6.4 and 6.5 improve usability and data maintenance, optimize the Visio export and introduce a new module for information security management .

Iteraplan has been operating under the LUY - Business Navigation brand since January 2020.

New releases are planned for April and October for the coming years. Iteratec employs all active project developers and offers, among other things, advice, training and support for iteraplan.
