Itterajivit [ ˈitːɜʁajivit ] (according to the old spelling Igterajivit ; also Ittaajimmiit or Illukasiit ) is a desolate Greenlandic settlement in the district Ittoqqortoormiit in the communeqarfik Sermersooq .

location

Itterajivit is located on the western southern tip of Liverpool Land on Kangertittivaq and is 14 km west of Ittoqqortoormiit .

history

Itterajivit is one of the three original residential areas at Ittoqqortoormiit and was founded together with it in 1925. In 1930, 26 people lived in Itterajivit. In 1940 there were already 95. With 104 residents in 1950, Itterajivit was larger than the main town Ittoqqortoormiit. In the same year a school chapel for 30 children was built. Itterajivit had 106 inhabitants in 1960 and 104 in 1970. From then on, the number of inhabitants decreased. In 1986 the school chapel was renovated, but in 1998 only one student attended.

Population development

Itterajivit's population began to decline in the 1970s. In 2005 the last nine residents left the place.
