Justin Iwlianowitsch Dschanelidse ( Georgian იუსტი ივლიანე ჯანელიძე ; Russian Иустин Ивлианович Джанелидзе / Justin Ivlianowitsch Dschanelidse, . Scientific transliteration Justin Ivlianovič Džanelidze ; born July 20 . Jul / 1. August  1883 greg. In Samtredia , government Kutaisi , Russian Empire ; † 14th January 1950 in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg ), USSR ) was a Russian and Soviet surgeon, transplant surgeon and specialist in cardiology . He has done significant work in the areas of collateral circulation, trauma surgery, and skin grafting. He received the Stalin Prize (1950), the title “ Hero of Socialist Labor ”, twice the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Star .

Life

Justin Dschanelidze was born on August 1st, 1883 into a peasant family. He spent his childhood and school years in the west of Kutaisi located Samtredia . Janelidze studied at the medical faculty of Kharkiv University from 1903 , but was dismissed on the grounds that in 1905 he had participated in student riots during the 1905 Russian Revolution . In the same year he moved to Geneva to study at the university there. After completing his studies, he completed his dissertation on the question of teratomas and testicular tumors .

In 1910 he returned to Russia, passed the state examination at Moscow University , which enabled him to become a doctor. In 1911 he confirmed the status of the holder of a doctorate at the Petersburg Medical-Surgical Academy (now the Military Medical Academy SM Kirov ). From 1911 to 1914 Janelidze taught at the Bedside Surgery Institute of the St. Petersburg Feminine Medical College. Since 1913 he performed heart operations. During the First World War he was raised to the rank of junior physician in a field march-like ambulance. After the war he moved to the Institute of General Surgery at the Petrograd Medical School. In 1921 he headed the Institute for General Surgery and was elected professor. From 1932 Janelidze worked as a scientific advisor at the Scientific Research Institute for on-call duty.

In 1935 he was elected chief surgeon in the Soviet Navy . During World War II he provided surgical aid to the wounded. In 1946 he visited the United States . Janelidze was buried in Leningrad Volkovo Cemetery in January 1950 .
