The Ivan Asen Point (English; Bulgarian нос Иван Асен nos Iwan Assen ) is a 300 m long headland on the southeast coast of Smith Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located 12 km northeast of Cape James , 20.6 km southwest of Cape Smith , 3.7 km southeast of Mount Foster and 3.2 km southeast of Slaveykov Peak . It forms the south side of the entrance to Ivan Asen Cove .
The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in 2006 and then in 2015 the bay of the same name after Ivan Assen II. († 1241), from 1218 until his death Tsar of the Second Bulgarian Empire .
