The Ivan Asen Cove (English; Bulgarian залив Иван Асен saliw Iwan Assen ) is a 1.16 km wide and 0.8 km long bay on the southeast coast of Smith Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located northeast of Ivan Asen Point and 13 km northeast of Cape James .
Bulgarian scientists mapped them in 2009. The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named them in 2015 based on the name of the headland of the same name . Its namesake is Iwan Assen II († 1241), from 1218 until his death Tsar of the Second Bulgarian Empire .
